How Does our Waitlist Work?

Our first waitlist is free to join with no commitment. If your on the list you will be notified once when pregnancy is confirmed and then again after the pups are born healthy. After the birth you will recive a message asking for a deposit before the deadline in 3 days time. At that time you can choose to pass or place a deposit. At the end of the deadline a new list is made from everyone that placed deposits in order from the previous list. Your place in line is then secure and you will recieve weekly pupdates and weights on the litter. Send us a message if you would like to be added to one of our waitlists.

Why do you ask for a deposit?

We ask for a $200 deposit to hole your place in line. This shows us you are commited and guarentees your spot so we don't sell the pup you are interested in. In most cases deposits are non refundable but we also strive to be flexible. If something happens on our end say we no longer have a puppy that fits your needs, the deposit will either be transferred to our next litter or refunded at your preference.

How much do your CMD's cost?

Our CMD's generally cost $1650.

What is a Blue Colorado Mountain Dog?

A blue Colorado Mountain dog is actually black, with a white grizzling. You can find this on the E locus as Eg and is also reffered to as Domino. We have a passion for Blue Colorado Mountain Dogs. THier coloring is unique and majestic and also changes over time. The blue coloring can be passed to their offspring if bred to the right mate. Of course we never compromise temperment to get this color but we at Stormy Heights Homestead believe we can have our cake and eat it too.

Why Should I buy a CMDR puppy when I can find Livestock Gaurdian Dogs for half the price?

Why are CMDR Colorado Mountain Dogs different from any mixed breed LGD? I get this question a lot. It can be a big decision to invest in a registered CMD when you can find LGD puppies online for a quarter of the price. I'm just going to list a few main reasons but the list goes on.

1- Many LGD's are bred to protect everything. Some breeds can take this too far and not let anyone on your property. Some people want that but thats not what CMD's are. My dogs will protect me, my children, livestock and anyone else's children with their lives, but if a stranger pulls up they will meet them with a wagging tail. On our homestead we didn't want to be limited having kids over to visit. Our CMD's love when we have company.

2- Many LGD's were bred to roam. If you have thousands of acres this isn't a big deal, but we wanted a dog that stays close to our home and livestock. (Although sometimes they sneak nextdoor for a treat and cuddles) You won't find most CMD's miles away.

3- Many breeds excessively bark and do not thrive in a place with close neighbors or businesses. This isn't the case with CMD's. They were bred for smaller homesteads in the country or in town.

4- Duality. Many LGD's just want to be left alone. They live full time with their livestock and don't like to be bothered with people. CMD's like both. They love their jobs but love their people too, When our dogs aren't out with the livestock you may find them soaking up the snuggles on the couch or even at the coffee shop enjoying a pupcup.

5- Purchasing a registered CMDR dog protects you. The lines and genetics are carefully monitored. Bad breeding is not tolerated by the CMDR. All dogs brought into the CMDR must pass hip/elbow/DNA and temperament tests. You and your pup are supported by a team working hard to ensure good breeding practices and and healthy genetics. When you purchase a CMDR pup you can rest assure that the pups lines are healthy and monitored for temperament and work eithic going back generations.
